Already at the age of 22 he was called a \u201egigantic pianist\u201c, \u201e highly gifted artist\u201c, \u201ethe most distinguished pianist of the time\u201d in the world of art. His contemporaries mentioned him as a virtuoso along with Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Chopin, Franz Liszt and Sigismund Thalberg.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #747474;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">In 1838 he migrated to <\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Petersburg\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Saint Petersburg<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #747474;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, where previous successful visits had made him <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #747474;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>persona grata<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #747474;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> at Court. He then became court pianist and inspector of musical studies in the <\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Imperial_Institute_of_Female_Education&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Imperial Institute of Female Education<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #747474;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> and occasional teacher at the Saint Petersburger Conservatory, and was ennobled in 1861. Henselt&#8217;s influence on the next generation of Russian pianists is immense. (It is in Henselt&#8217;s playing and teaching that the entire Russian school of music had its genesis.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"color: #747474;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Henselt was also well known for his piano compositions in the middle of the 19<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #747474;\"><sup><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">th<\/span><\/sup><\/span><span style=\"color: #747474;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> century.
